The Knicks looked impressive in victory Wednesday night. Not those Knicks who play in New York, but the undefeated 9th and 10th grade champions of the same name in the Norwalk Junior Basketball Association. The Knicks finished 11-0 with a 72-49 win over the Sixers in the title contest. Point guard Shakar Goodwin led the attack with 16 points, while teammates D.J. Shavers and Larry McKinney contributed 14 apiece.
We didnt play our best tonight, but it was a great season overall, Goodwin said. This is our first time being undefeated and it is a great feeling in the end.
The Knicks took the lead in the opening quarter and didnt look back. They put the game out of reach with a 22-point fourth quarter and played an aggressive, trapping full-court defense for the entire game. Even though we won by such a large margin, I think that we could have played better tonight, Goodwin said. We seemed to have slacked off toward the end of the season, but finished off strong in the end.
Center Tyler Burns led the Sixers (9-2) with 18 points, while forward Matt Mason followed with 10. What worked in the game for us tonight was passing the ball when we had the chance to, Burns said. They were a lot faster than we were and we couldn't get back when they broke the press.
Sixers head coach Matt Harbilas was unable to attend. Norwalk High School boys freshman basketball coach Dan Segers replaced him.
