FAIRFIELD, Conn. This year's Connecticut Challenge will include a ride for young cyclists. It starts July 30 from the Fairfield County Hunt Club, same time and place as the adult event, and will raise money for cancer survivorship programs.
The junior ride will also include a few special, fun challenges along the way. Because participants will be riding on grass, the Junior Challenge is not suitable for young children on tricycles or with training wheels. But if you have a bike that you can ride on grass, the Junior Challenge is for you!
Only the first 100 kids to register will be accepted, so don't wait. For more information, go to the Connecticut Challenge website.
Here are the details:
Date Saturday, July 30, 9-11 a.m.
Who Can Ride Open to all children who have a bike they can ride on grass. The typical age range of participants is 5 to 10 years old. Registration is limited to the first 100 kids who enter. Bike helmets are mandatory.
Course A course will be designed by Parisi Speed School of Stamford. The Challenge will mix a healthy dose of bike riding with a few fun challenges. Riders may start and finish when they wish between 9-11 a.m. Riders will receive a sticker on their helmet after every lap they complete.
Goodies All Junior Riders will receive a goody bag from Life is Good and healthy snacks and beverages after they complete their ride.
Register online There is a $20 fee.
Fundraising There is no minimum fundraising requirement for the Junior Ride, but, in the spirit of the CT Challenge and in support of survivors of childhood cancers, we encourage riders to raise as much money as they can from friends, teachers, camp counselors and family. Junior Riders can raise money by collecting donations and keep track of them using the Junior Challenge Pledge Sheet. Money can be turned in on the day of the ride or mailed to the CT Challenge at any time before the fundraising deadline of Sept. 30, 2011.
