Kayakers Ready to Cross Sound

Nearly 200 kayakers will enjoy rock ‘n’ roll, the beach and a cookout as part of the 10th annual Kayak For A Cause Saturday. The event starts at Crab Meadow Beach in Northport, N.Y., and concludes at Calf Pasture Beach.

Kayakers paddle 12.4 miles across Long Island Sound. The event arose out of a simple challenge between two friends and has since grown into a fundraising initiative. The event has raised over $1.5 million for local charities since its inception.

Charities that receive proceeds from KFAC include Canine Companions for Independence, Builders Beyond Borders, Outward Bound Connecticut, The Maritime Aquarium and Save the Sound. Kayakers leave Crab Meadow between 8:30 and 9:30 Saturday morning and are expected to arrive at Calf Pasture between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Afterward, they will enjoy a party and dinner at Calf Pasture with music from Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer Dickey Betts and Great Southern.
