Patrick Hynes made it look easy in winning the Boston Buildup 25-kilometer run Sunday.
It was anything but.Thats a tough course, said Hynes, 27, of Brooklyn, who won in 1:27.40, nearly four minutes ahead of runner-up Tim Milenkevich. If a runner can handle that course, theyre in good shape.
Hynes beat a field of 232 runners on the 15.5 course that starts at Norwalks Silvermine Elementary School. The course winds through some of Norwalks most scenic neighborhoods, and even crosses into Vista, N.Y. and Wilton. There are several challenging hills. It kicked my butt a little bit today, said Hynes, who was running his first Boston Buildup event.
Hynes is not training for the Boston Marathon, but will enter the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach on March 21. He hopes to run that race in 2 hours and 25 minutes.
Milenkevich settled for second place yesterday but took the Boston Buildup overall title. He won the 10-kilometer and the 20-kilometer events in the four-race series, which began in January. He finished third in the 15K run. I ran personal bests in the 15, 20 and 25 Ks, said Milenkevich, 27, of Ansonia. He ran 1:31:39 Sunday, an average of 5:54 per mile. Im running faster now than I did even in college at St. Michaels, he said.
Milenkevich has finished third overall the past two years and was second in 2007. This was his first overall title in the Buildup series.
