Hunsberger Hops to Wisconsin Again

Heidi Hunsberger, a Wilton native who rowed for a Norwalk club, is returning to Wisconsin's rowing team. Hunsberger, a former member of the Badgers, took over as the as the novice lightweight rowing coach earlier this month.

"Heidi was a huge asset to our team as a two-time national champion coxswain, and I'm confident that she'll do a fantastic job recruiting and training future classes of Wisconsin lightweights,'' coach Erik Miller said.

Hunsberger directed the UW lightweight eight to IRA national titles and EAWRC conference titles in 2008 and 2009. An Academic All-Big Ten rower in 2009, she was also awarded a Performance Award by the UW athletic department in 2009 for her academic excellence.

Hunsberger spent last fall as a volunteer assistant coach for the novice lightweight squad, while completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Since then, the Wilton native, who rowed locally at the Norwalk-based Maritime Rowing Club has worked for JNK Securities Corp.

"The invaluable experiences I had on the team are something I hope to pass on to incoming classes of Wisconsin lightweights,'' Hunsberger said. "I am looking forward to working with the novices to continue the Wisconsin tradition of excellence. "
