High-Scoring King, St. Luke's Clash Saturday

STAMFORD, Conn. – King hosts St. Luke’s in the final regular-season game for both football teams Saturday at 1 p.m. The Vikings are 4-3, while the Crusaders are 5-1.

St. Luke’s, of New Canaan, won last year’s meeting, 48-20, while the Vikings, from Stamford, won in 2009, 42-22. This year’s game should be another high-scoring contest, as both teams have shown an ability to light up the scoreboard.

The Crusaders have scored 222 points this season, which includes a 64-13 rout of Kingswood-Oxford on Oct. 6. St. Luke’s features running back Noel Thomas, who has rushed for 883 yards on 64 carries, an average of 13.8 yards per carry. He has also rushed for nine touchdowns. Quarterback Charlie Nelson has thrown for six touchdown passes while Myles Gaines has rushed for 480 yards and six TDs.

King has scored 40 or more points in three victories this season. Unfortunately for the Vikings, they have also shown a propensity to surrender points, and have yielded 40 or more on three occasions. The Vikings feature an explosive threat in Joey Santoro, who has rushed for 996 yards and caught 21 passes. He has also scored 14 touchdowns.

Santoro rushed for 317 yards in a win over Long Island Lutheran and 304 in a victory over Hackley.
