Greenwich Man Takes 3rd in Westchester Triathlon

Greenwich's Robert Dahl finished third overall in the men's field Sunday at the Jarden Westchester Triathlon in Rye, N.Y.Dahl, 55, completed the Olympic-distance course in 2:09.49. Ryan Siebert, 20, of Long Island, won the race in 2:01.21. Mauricio Sanchez of New York finished second in 2:08:18.

Earlier this summer, Dahl finished eighth in his age group at the national championships in Vermont. Dahl's race was among many highlights for Fairfield County runners, with many men and women placing among the top five in their age groups. They included: Stamford's Ryan Matherne, second in men 20-24; Stamford's Daniel Conroy, second in men 35-39; Darien's Andreas Halvorsen, third in men 50-54; Michael Christie of Cos Cob, first in men 55-59; Philip Meese, third in men 50-59; Stamford's Jerry Haas, fifth in men 60-64; and Stamford's John Cook, first in men 75-and-up.

Top performances from Fairfield County among the women included Darien's Rose Shabet, who finished fourth overall. Shabet, 40, completed the course in 2:22:29. Other top area women included Greenwich's Joanna Rakoczy, third in women 20-24; Stamford's Alison Grice, first in women 25-29; Westport's Christina Thomson, first in women 35-39; New Canaan's Julie Jones, first in women 40-44; Joan Lynch of Cos Cob, fifth among women 45-49; Greenwich's Katha Diddel-Warren, first in women 50-54; and Stamford's Jean Barden, third in women 55-59.

The race consisted of a swim for nine-tenths of a mile, a 25-mile bike ride and a 10k (6.2-mile) run. Complete results are available online.
