Greens Farms Volleyball Spiked by Sacred Heart

WESTPORT, Conn. – The Greens Farms Academy girls volleyball team lost a tough match to Convent of the Sacred Heart Thursday, falling 27-25, 25-18 and 25-23 in a Fairchester Athletic Association game. The games were close throughout with the lead constantly switching sides.

The Green's Farms backline defense — led by Brooke Cirillo, of Bedford, N.Y.,  and Lucy Hoffman, of Fairfield — had its strongest peformance of the season, coach Paul Groves said.

Hitters Kiera Wood, of Redding, and Sarah Young, of Stamford, had a consistent match, Groves said.

Senior setter Sarah MacDonell, of Westport, had an outstanding game with 18 assists and demonstrated great leadership on the floor, Groves added.

When asked about the overall tone of the game, Groves said he felt, "strongly that this match was a positive motivator for the team, despite the loss because we played well and still have young players with unlimited potential."

The Dragons face Marianapolis Prep on the road Saturday.
