Greens Farms Stuns King with 4 in 7th

The Greens Farms Academy softball team scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday to defeat King, 9-8, and remain undefeated.

Excellent defensive plays by sophomore Sarah Young and senior captains Alexa Sullivan and Idalia Friedson kept the game close throughout. The defensive highlight of the game was a diving tag by Friedson to complete a double play off an assist from Young in center field in the bottom of the fourth.

A triple by Friedson and multiple RBIs by Sullivan supplied some offensive power, but GFA entered the bottom of the seventh inning down by three runs. In the bottom of the seventh, after Sydney Huffman was hit by a pitch and Friedson was intentionally walked, Sullivan doubled to bring in both runners. Sarah Young then doubled, bringing Brooke Cirillo up to the plate. On a wild pitch, Sullivan stole home, and before the pitcher and catcher could secure the ball Young also stole home for the winning run.

GFA (3-0) plays Greenwich Academy Monday at 3:30.
