Greens Farms Rolls to 6th Straight Win

Greens Farms Academy rallied in the second half to defeat Hopkins of New Haven, 78-65, in a Fairchester Athletic Association boys basketball game Thursday in Westport. It was the sixth straight win for the Dragons, who have not lost in 2011.

Weston's Dan Chase scored 31 points, while Sean Obi of Greenwich scored 18 and grabbed 21 rebounds for GFA (8-3 overall, 5-3 FAA). Matt Luciani scored 17, and Darren O'Brien had 15 for Hopkins.

Hopkins (5-10 overall, 2-3 FAA) built a seven-point lead at one point before settling for a 30-27 halftime lead.

Behind point guard C.J. Smith (12 points) and a smothering defense, GFA sliced through the Hopkins' defense for 51 second-half points. Hunter Eggers, Christian Papic, Dan Hoffman and Kam Mickens took turns hounding Hopkins' Lucas Hausman, who was held to a season-low six points. Will Pavlis, Wills Rooney, Eric Walsh and Brien Comey locked down Laurent Firlotte, allowing him less half of his season's average. Hausman came into the game averaging 19.2 per game, and Firlotte averaged 16.7 per game.

Papic added eight for GFA, and Chris Morency challenged Obi for most impressive block honors.

GFA meets undefeated Wooster School on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Danbury. This nonleague action could have large New England Championship Tournament seeding implications.
