Greens Farms Girls Tie Suffield Academy

WESTPORT, Conn. – Emily Caldwell scored on a direct kick with nearly two minutes remaining to give Greens Farms Academy’s girls soccer team a hard-earned 1-1 tie Wednesday with host Suffield Academy.

GFA had several open net opportunities but could not convert during the first half. Suffield got the go-ahead goal with nearly 20 minutes remaining.

During an aggressive and physical second half, the Dragons got a golden opportunity when Darien’s Phebe Wong stormed toward the Suffield goal on a breakaway. She was tackled by a Suffied Academy player, who received a yellow card. Caldwell, of Fairfield, tied the game with a blast in the far corner of the goal. GFA had another direct kick in the final minute, but the shot flew over the goal.

Sophomore goalie Caroline Kruk made eight saves for GFA, which had 10 shots on goal. The Dragons travel to King in Stamford Saturday at 12:15 to play the Vikings at their homecoming.
