Greens Farms Girls Hand St. Luke's First Loss

WESTPORT, Conn. – Blair Pelley scored with five minutes remaining to give Greens Farms Academy’s girls soccer team a 2-1 win Tuesday over previously unbeaten St. Luke’s.

Greens Farms scored first on a goal by Tia Carson. Meighan Grady set up the goal when she received a ball from the opposite side of the field, took a strong touch on the ball, and crossed it in front to Carson, a sophomore from Westport. St. Luke’s responded quickly to tie the game 1-1 at halftime.

Greens Farms' defense - which consisted of regular stoppers Sam Brown, Kate Tomlinson,  Pelley and Georgie Garner - was joined late in the first half by senior captain Emily Caldwell. Caldwell shut down St. Luke's best player, eliminating many of the opportunities they saw early on.

With Caldwell and the rest of the defense doing its part, Pelley was able to move up to the midfield where she eventually received a ball from sophomore Rachel Cohen. Pelley, a junior from Darien, took a few touches on the ball and then sent it in to the corner of goal past a diving St. Luke's goalie.

Greens Farms travels to Greenwich Academy Thursday. The Dragons, 9-2-4, are undefeated in their last seven games.
