Greens Farms Girls Advance in FAA Playoffs

Stephanie Garofoli scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Greens Farms Academy's girls basketball team to a 38-26 victory over Hopkins Tuesday in the first round of the Fairchester Athletic Association tournament. GFA will meet Masters Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Westport for a berth in the league title game.

GFA (15-8) used a stellar defensive effort to upend Hopkins, which beat the Dragons on the final day of the regular season last Friday. This time, GFA held Hopkins to just 10 first-half points. Meighan Grady (seven points) and Jenna Pittleman (five points) shut down Hopkins' two offensive threats, holding them to a combined 10 points.

Allie Kruk added eight points and grabbed 12 rebounds for GFA. The Dragons now meet Masters, which won the regular-season contest, 48-32, in a contest played at Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. GFA is anxious to play on its home court, where the Dragons are 12-3.

The winner advances to the FAA title game on Friday.
