Greens Farms Boys Win League Soccer Opener

The Greens Farms boys soccer team defeated Masters, N.Y., 7-4, in their Fairchester Athletic Association opener. GFA took a 3-2 lead into the half after freshman Griffin Garner (Greens Farms) got the offense going with a well-placed cross to sophomore Brendan Bieder (Southport), who headed it home for a 1-0 lead. Juniors Spencer Hartig (Riverside) and Munir Qaddourah (Trumbull) got in on the act with a Qaddourah cross finding Hartig wide open.After the break, GFA took a 5-2 lead when Bieder scored his second goal and Hartig completed his hat trick. Junior Sean Obi (Greenwich) notched GFA's sixth goal with a great individual effort, and Qaddourah finished the scoring after getting taken down in the box for a penalty kick. Juniors Anders Forfand (New Canaan) and Charles Salmans (Darien) also played well in the middle of the field. GFA, now 3-3 on the season, hosts New England champs South Kent on Saturday at 4 p.m.Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for all the Fairfield County sports news.
