The Dragons won their season opener against the Wooster School, 15-5, in an excellent start for the 2011 Greens Farms Academy softball team. The team came out hitting, batting through the entire order in the first inning and scoring four runs.
Highlights of the game included extra base hits by Miranda Princi, Alexa Sullivan, Sarah Young and Brooke Cirillo. Alexa Sullivan went four-for-four, including a two-run home run in the second inning (3 RBIs total). Sarah Young had an excellent afternoon, batting three-for-four with two triples and a three-run home run (4 RBIs total). As a group, the team had 15 hits.
Defensively, Idalia Friedson had a strong first outing on the mound with five strikeouts and only three walks. Defensive highlights included a nice catch in right field by Caroline Kruk, and several strong plays by Alexa Sullivan at first base. Brooke Cirillo had a great first game behind the plate and caught two runners attempting to steal bases.
