The Greens Farms girls sailing team competed against five other teams in the Fairfield County Sailing League Women's Invitational at Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich. The breeze was about 8 knots from the east, and three races were completed in the A and B division.
Juniors Emily Petno of New Canaan and Sarah MacDonell of Westport finished second place in the A division with six points behind Darien High School. Junior Bridgette Foster of Southport and Freshman Allie Nixon of Rowayton finished fourth in the B division. Overall, the Dragons came in third place behind Darien High School and Greenwich Academy.
On Saturday, the GFA sailing team was scheduled to face off against Brewster, Greenwich High and Staples at Pequot Yacht Club in Southport. Winds were light from the Southeast, forcing the races to be canceled after the first flight. GFA lost to Staples, 1-2. The GFA team got great starts in all three races but lost two races because of boat speed and tactical errors.
Sailing for GFA were junior Jack Kauffman of Darien) with crew sophomore Liz McDermott of New Canaan, junior Emily Petno of New Canaan with crew freshman Andrew McCarthy of Southport and junior Bridgette Foster of Southport with crew freshman Allie Nixon of Rowayton.
