Former Husky Runs Stamford Hoops Clinics

Former UConn and Trinity Catholic star Craig Austrie is running basketball clinics for players in third grade through high school. The clinics are on the second Saturday of every month at the Stamford YMCA from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"These clinics are for the die-hard basketball player as well as the two- or three-sport athletes who want to stay on top of their game,” Austrie said. “In order to be a competitive basketball player, players must play year round so that their skills stay up to par. There is nothing worse than putting the basketball in the closet for a couple of months and becoming rusty."

Austrie played four years at the University of Connecticut (2005-2009), starting in the 2009 Final Four game. He is currently third all-time in free-throw percentage at UConn (83.0) and holds the freshman assist record for one game (14 vs. Quinnipiac).

During Austrie's’ years at Trinity Catholic, it won two state championships as well as three FCIAC championships. In 2004 and 2005, he was first team all state. In 2005, he was also Gatorade Player of the Year.
