Fitness Buffs Put Own Spin on Cancer Fight

Fitness fans and recreational athletes from all over Fairfield County pedaled, whacked and exercised Sunday at Intensity in Norwalk at SpinOdyssey to raise money for breast cancer research.

Organizers said 672 fundraisers contributed either in Spinning, tennis, Zumba, Body Pump or a fitness class with Herman Walker. A second Zumba studio was also taking place at Studio M in Norwalk.

Money raised also supports the Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital. Westport's Patty Kondub and Norwalk's Terri Polley served as co-chairs and were aiming to raise $450,000 for its causes. Teams from Norwalk Hospital, the Norwalk YMCA, the Westport-Weston YMCA, Southport Racquet Club, Equinox and Whitby School in Greenwich were among the participants. This is the event's 12th year.

Some spinning athletes rode for the event's entire six hours. A total of 200 bikes, all of them brought in by the Staples football team, were lined up for the event. The event also included 150 volunteers who helped SpinOdyssey run smoothly. Watch more photos and a story later on your favorite Main Street Connect site!
