Fans Can Get Decked Out for Derby Parties

Horse racing fans can join in on the Kentucky Derby fun in Fairfield and Weston for Saturday's big race. The Pequot Library in Southport and the Norfield Grange in Weston are hosting events for Saturday's 137th Run For the Roses.

The event at Pequot Library runs from 4 to 7 p.m. It will feature mint juleps, Kentucky fare, live race coverage and prizes. The Shack Hometown Grill in Fairfield will provide the food. Prizes will awarded for best hat and best tailgate, and guests can pick a favorite horse to win in a 50/50 raffle. People can register online or contact Robin Jerrild at jerrild@pequotlibrary.org for more information.

For the party at the Norfield Grange, guests will be offered "refresh-Mints" and food and will watch the race on the Grange Jumbotron. Interested party-goers should call 203-226-8233 for reservations.

Dialed In, owned by Westport resident and Stamford businessman Robert LaPenta, is the race favorite. The colt will start from Post 8 and will be ridden by jockey Julien Leparoux. He is trained by Nick Zito.
