FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. Trumbull teenager Matt Klein won the second leg of the Boston Buildup running series by capturing the 15-kilometer run in Ridgefield. Anja Krieger-Redwood, of Cos Cob, won the womens division for the second straight race.
Klein, 17, ran the 9.3-mile race in 50:39 on a beautiful day for running in Ridgefield. The hilly race began at Scotland Elementary School and crossed into New York state. There were 322 finishers, the second highest total in the 34-year history of the 15K race. The next event is a 20K race scheduled for Feb. 12 in Southport.
New Canaans Will McDonough took second in 51:56, followed by Tom Milenkevich, of Ansonia, in 51:57. Danburys Joe LeMay was fourth, followed by Rowaytons Gus Ellison and Stamfords Jacob Grice.
Krieger-Redwood, a former distance standout at Greenwich High School, ran 58:48. She was followed byLiza Grudzinski, of Newburgh, N.Y., and Heather Sipsma, of West Hartford. Dariens Liz Herbert finished fourth among women and Wiltons Mary Zengo was fifth.
In the series standings, Klein leads the mens division, followed by Milenkevich and McDonough. Krieger-Redwood leads the womens series, followed by Herbert and defending champion Julie Heaphy, of Norwalk.
