The baseball gods must be grinning at their handiwork. More than 30 teams qualified for the Connecticut American Senior Legion state tournament, including four teams from Fairfield County. The stars have now aligned for a Fairfield County showdown Monday and Tuesday, with Greenwich taking on Stamford in Middletown and Norwalk locking horns with Trumbull in Bristol. Both games start at 6:30 p.m.
By the time the tournament is whittled down to eight teams on Tuesday, the four Fairfield County teams will swap opponents. The winner of Greenwich-Stamford will take on the winner of Norwalk-Trumbull in the winners bracket final. The losers of those games will face off as well Tuesday.
Greenwich beat Southington in a Sunday slugfest, 15-9. Norwalk crushed Unionville, 13-3. Stamford eked out a 3-2 victory to continue its Cinderella run. Trumbull edged Bristol, 3-0.
One thing has been assured this year--a team from Fairfield County will play in the Legion state championship. Whether it's Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk or Trumbull will soon become clear.
Which of the four do you think will make it to the state finals? Start the discussion below!
