McMahon Baseball Hopes for Deep Playoff Run

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - UPDATE 1:30 PM: Monday's rain has postponed all of the baseball quarterfinals to Tuesday. The games are still scheduled for 4 p.m. Follow Eric Gendron on Twitter for any further scheduling changes for the semifinals and championship rounds.

ORIGINAL STORY: One theme seems to be a constant when it comes to the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference baseball playoffs: expect the unexpected.

In a tournament known for its upsets, a heavy favorite is hoping to buck that trend. Greenwich High School became the first team in the conference to go a perfect 20-0 since the Cardinals achieved that same feat in 1996.

Plenty of teams will be looking to knock off Greenwich, however, as the Cardinals narrowly edged Danbury Friday and survived St. Joseph in extra innings earlier this year.

Wilton enters the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the league, having won 10 of its final 11 games. The Warriors will have to get past UConn-bound Bryan Daniello of McMahon High School in the first round, who has put together a stellar season on the mound and at the plate.

Defending conference champion Staples has scuffled as of late, losing four its final five games of the year. Even more disconcerting for the Wreckers if they want to keep their title -- they went 2-5 this season against teams that made the conference playoffs.

Below is the full baseball playoff schedule with the home teams listed first. All quarterfinal games are scheduled for 4 p.m.
