Spring officially arrived Sunday evening, but local runners got the jump on the season at the 32nd annual Spring Equinox Race in New Canaan earlier in the day.
Daniel Lennox of Bedford, N.Y., and Erica Merrill of Rowayton bested the field of 44 runners under near-prefect conditions to win the men's and women's titles. Lennox's time for the 8-kilomter, or 4.96-mile, course was 28:12. Merrill finished in 34:33. Although both are regulars on the local running scene, it was the first time either had competed in the venerable event.
