STAMFORD, Conn. An elite travel lacrosse program run by Chelsea Piers Connecticut and coached by Scott Bulkley will hold tryouts next month in Stamford and Greenwich. The program is open for players in Connecticut and Westchester County, N.Y.
Boys' tryouts take place Oct. 22 at Stamford High School's upper turf field (behind the school). Girls' team tryouts will take place Oct. 30 at Greenwich Academy's Lower Tammaro Field. More information is available on www.cpctlax.com.
The year-round travel program will field one boys' and one girls' team per age group from ninth to 12th grade. Each team will have up to 28 players and two coaches.
The program will start with a rigorous summer 2012 training schedule on outdoor fields, and follow up with a fall and winter practice and play program held on Chelsea Piers' 100-yard indoor turf field. The teams will travel regionally to compete.
"I am excited to be creating what will be the best club program in Connecticut," Bulkley said. "There is a lot of talent in Fairfield County. With our outstanding athletic facility at Chelsea Piers Connecticut and a roster of talented, dedicated coaches, I expect that CP-LAX will quickly become a dominant force in Fairfield County."
Chelsea Piers will open its Stamford location in June.
Boys' teams tryouts on Oct. 22 at Stamford High: 2013 grads (current 11th graders), 8 a.m.-9:15 a.m.; 2014 grads (10th graders, 9:30 a.m.-10:45 a.m.; 2015 grads (ninth graders) 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m.; and 2016 grads (eighth graders) 12:30 p.m.-1:45 p.m.
Girls' team tryouts on Oct. 30 at Greenwich Academy: 2013 grads (current 11th graders) Noon-1:15 p.m.; 2014 grads (10th graders) 1:30 p.m.-2:45 p.m.; 2015 grads (ninth graders) 3 p.m.-4:15 p.m. and 2016 grads (eighth graders) 4:30 p.m.-5:45 p.m.
