EASTON, Conn. Easton's Chris Thomas won his fourth triathlon of the summer on Sunday, and he hardly needed to leave home to do it. Thomas, the owner of Personal Training Professionals in Southport, captured the Park City Mossman Olympic distance triathlon in Bridgeport.
"I love competing this close to home,'' Thomas said. "My wife and three boys are able to come watch me race, and there is nothing better than that."
Earlier this year, Thomas won the Trifitness Seaside Sprint triathlon, the Pat Griskus New England championship and the Pat Griskus Sprint. He also finished as the top amateur in the 70.3 Mooseman, 70.3 Buffalo Springs and 70.3 Rhode Island triathlons.
Thomas finished Sunday's race in 1:54:56, nearly six minutes ahead of runner-up Jonathan Ingalls of Clinton. Craig Vitale of New York was third.
"Overall, I was happy with the race. My coach and I set this as a training race to get some leg speed before I compete at the 70.3 World Championships on Sept. 11 and the Ironman World Championships on Oct. 8. My overall time was the slowest of the three years that I've done the race, but I thought the race was very productive."
Fairfield's Joshua McLevy finished second in the men's 30-34 age group, and Bryan French of Fairfield was third in the same age group. Stamford's Daniel Conroy (35-39) won his age group, and Barry McMaster of Darien was third.
Ricardo DeBiase of Stamford (45-49), Chris Woods of Westport (50-54), Joseph Vonehr of Southport (55-59), John Cook of Stamford (75-79), Reenie Parker of Riverside (women 50-54) and New Canaan's Andrea Williamson Hughes (women 55-59) were other age group winners.
Other top-three age group finishers from Main Street Connect communities included Norwalk's Jessica Leboeuf (third, women 20-24), Stamford's Erica Mila (third, women 30-34), Norwalk's Sally Freedman (third, women 35-39), Michal Smart (third, women 45-49), Wilton's Craig Knutson (second, men 50-54) and Stamford's Jerry Haas (third, men 60-64).
