Dahl, Duff Run Away With Point Wins

Victor Dahl was the overall winner and Shannon Duff won the women's race Sunday at the B*Cured Point Perspective cross-country race at Tod's Point in Old Greenwich.

Dahl, 18, led the field of 286 finishers in the 5-kilometer race with a time of 16:30 that was 12 seconds ahead of runner-up Peter Geithner, 17, from Larchmont, N.Y. Geithner attends Brunswick School in Greenwich. Dahl is a star senior runner for the Greenwich High School cross-country and track teams. George Buchanan, 52, a Stamford native and Shelton resident, placed third in 17:20.

Duff, from Greenwich, won the women's division and placed 11th overall in 19:25. Camille Matonis of Greenwich was the women's runner-up and 15th overall with a 19:51. Sarah Endres, a 13-year-old phenom from New Canaan, was the third female and 16th overall in 19:54.

In addition to the 3.1-mile race, there was also an accompanying half-mile Kids' Race. Sebastian Oe, 13, from Greenwich won the half-mile race with a 2:21. George Crist, 13, was runner-up with a 2:32. Alex Orwicz, 10, from New Canaan, placed third with a 2:48.

Arden Orwicz, 12, was the girls' winner and just behind her brother in fourth place overall. Valentina Rivera, 11, was the second girl with a 3:07. Allison Brea, 9, placed third in the girls' race with a 3:19. A total of 93 youngsters finished the Kids Race so there were a combined 379 runners in both races. The B*Cured Point Perspective was the opening event of the 2011 Volvo of Stamford Greenwich Cup series of 10 events. The second Cup event is the Volvo of Stamford Greenwich Cup Biathlon at 7 a.m. May 1 at Tod's Point. The 15-mile biathlon begins with a 2.5-mile run, followed by a 10-mile bike ride and concluding with another 2.5-mile run. The pre-entry fee is $45 and the post-entry fee on the morning of the event is $59.
