FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. For the second year in a row, Connecticut Boat Club crews swept four races at the Kent Invitational.
Paced by its powerful first Varsity 8, the Norwalk-based team ruled the water in its final tuneup before this weekends Northeast Regional championships.
The signature win came in the Varsity 8 with Westons Ali Hornung, Sacred Heart Academys Deirdre Fitzpatrick, New Canaans Abby Stevenson, freshman Katherine Suitieri, Wiltons Tori Babchak, Fairfields Isabel Fitter, Ridgefields Meg Galloway, Sacred Heart Academy student India Knight and Westons Sarah Schwartz. The team won by nine seconds over Kent, followed by Simsbury.
The second Varsity 8 consisted of Kassy Boliaks, Kyle Maier, Kendra Shutts, Paige Voight, Natalie Puente, Kate Tyrrell, Casey Clifford, Bea Nash and Jessica Ferrante. That crew won by more than three seconds.
The third Varsity 8 won by 12 seconds with cox Courtney Lincoln, Shelby Penfield, Kate Hickey, Holly Geffs, Sarah Mudd, Payton Garrity, Haley Bower, Maggie Roberts and Emily Olsen.
The fourth boat featured coxswain Kyra Brook of Darien steering an 8 for the first time. They won by four seconds and the crew included Maggie Murphy, Catherine Wilcock, Natlie Yannopolous, Janie Roach, Kat Norton, Erin Meskers, Natalie Davis-Porada and Kate Renaud.
