Cold Postpones Sunday's Boston Buildup

Extreme temperatures forecast for Sunday and difficult road conditions have forced the postponement of Sunday's Boston Buildup race. The 15-kilometer race (9.3 miles) will now be run Jan. 30 at Scotland Elementary School in Ridgefield at 9 a.m.

The Ridgefield race has been the one most affected by weather conditions. Race director Jim Gerweck said the race has been postponed "six or seven times" in its 30-year history because of weather-related issues.

In the opening race of the series Jan. 9, there were 362 finishers, one of the highest totals ever for the series. Trumbull's Matt Klein, a student at Hopkins School in New Haven, won the men's race and Julie Heaphy of Norwalk won the women's race.

Sunday's weather is expected to be in single digits, according to recent forecasts. Not only are those temperatures difficult for runners, but volunteers also would have been hard to come by.
