The Greens Farms Academy boys basketball team lost more than a game in Tuesday's 78-69 setback against Christian Heritage of Trumbull. The team also lost leading scorer Dan Chase, who was averaging 22.9 points per game, when he broke his collarbone after slamming into a wall during the first half.
Trying to make up for that lost production, the Dragons (14-8) went to a heavy ball movement offense. Eric Walsh found the open man for six assists. The favorite targets were Sean Obi with 30 points and Brien Comey with 16. Obi, Hunter Eggers, Will Pavlis, C.J. Smith and Christian Papic all joined Walsh in the multiple assist stat column.
Eggers, Papic, Wills Rooney, Kam Mickens and Dan Hoffman took turns in applying full court defensive pressure on the CHHS college-bound scoring stars. GFA shaved the CHHS lead down to four late in the game but could not get over the hump. It tried the intentional fouling tactic as well, but that only served to widen the final deficit.
On Friday, the Dragons travel to West Hartford to take on one of the best teams in the state, Kingswood-Oxford. That will be their final prep before starting the FAA postseason tournament. They go into Friday's game with a 14-8 record.
