CBC Rowers Strike Gold at Regatta

Connecticut Boat Club rowers won three gold medals and a silver in the Head of the Housatonic last weekend at Indian Wells State Park. Located on the Norwalk River, CBC began racing as a club in March and won three gold medals at the U.S. Junior National championships in June. Thirty-one of the 37 athletes from CBC won gold medals at the Housatonic regatta.

CBC's quad kicked off the Head of the Housatonic by winning in 19:09 and beating second place Pelham, N.Y., by over 20 seconds. The quad consisted of Rosie Grinalds of Southport, New Canaan's Abby Stevenson, Tori Babchak of Wilton and Jackie Cloud of New Canaan.

CBC's Novice 8 crew won with a team of Darien's Courtney Kyritz, Olivia Taylor, Kendra Shutts and Emily Olsen, Greenwich's Bea Nash, Weston's Sarah Schwartz, Southport's Annika Heumann, Cheshire's Deirdre Fitzpatrick and Oxford's Stephanie Leone. CBC won the race by over two minutes.

CBC placed three boats in the Varsity 8 race and came away with first, second and seventh. The winning crew consisted of Norwalk's Katherine Isaza and India Knight, Southport's Lucy and Rosie Grinalds, New Canaan's Abby Stevenson, Darien's Christine Bragg, Fairfield's Maddie Stearns and Greenwich's Maria Lycouris and Heather Oudheusden.

The second Varsity 8 was comprised of Darien's Emily Crump, Caroline Cochran and Alex Enzor, Greenwich's Lexie Lynn and Abbie Frey, Wilton's Tori Babchak, New Canaan's Jackie Cloud, Weston's Ali Hornung and Ridgefield's Meg Galloway.

CBC's third Varsity 8 crew consisted of Darien's Andi Cara, Lizzie Steinborne, Olivia Taylor, Alex Minicucci, Whitney Ruhlin and Courtney Kyritz, Fairfield's Margaux Will, Cheshire's Deirdre Fitzpatrick and Newtown's Kirsten Wessel.
