Capone's 2 goals lift Beachside 12s

The Beachside Blue 12-and-under boys soccer team faced an uphill climb from the early minutes of Sunday's State Cup final against FSA United. The team rebounded for a 2-1 win and its second straight state championship.

Brett Capone scored both goals for Beachside, while goalkeeper Emmett Witmer made 10 saves, including two on penalty kicks. Both of Capone's goals came in the second half.

Beachside played the game shorthanded from the fifth minute. A Beachside player was assessed a red card, and FSA United took a 1-0 lead at halftime. Capone's two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half put Beachside ahead. One came on a rebound and the other came on a shot from the 18-yard line.

"There was no way to plan for this game,'' coach John Chiavaroli said. "They pulled together after the red card and played a great game."

Other team members include Kyle Casey, Finn Conley, Steve Demoura, Graham Gudis, George Kutrubis, Daniel Mines, Chris Molina, Ari Nishimura-Gasparian, Oscar Pereira, Nicholas Petridis, John-Austin Ricks, Max Sanderson, Lauti Santillan, Caner Snover and Matt Wilson.

The team will compete in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region 1 national championships in West Virginia beginning July 1.
