Maia, 19, and Alex, 22, dubbed the ShibSibs, skated their Free Dance on Monday to a medley of Michael Jackson hits: "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," "Man In The Mirror" and "Thriller." They posted a score of 90.70 points, which put them in 10th place in the Free Dance.
In the first segment on Sunday, they scored 64.47 points in the Short Dance, a season's best for the Shibutanis, who skated to a foxtrot and quickstep medley of music by Michael Buble.
Their combined total score of 155.17 points put them in ninth place overall in the competition.
All three teams from the United States -- the Shibutanis, Madison Chock and Evan Bates, and Meryl Davis and Charlie White -- finished in the Top 10.
The team of Davis and White made history as the first U.S. team to ever win the gold medal in Ice Dance at the Olympic. Their scores of 78.89 points in the Short Dance and 116.63 in the Free Dance are both world records, for a combined record of 195.52 points.
They skated to music from "My Fair Lady" in the Short Dance and "Scheherazade" by Nikolai Rimski-Korsakov in the Free Dance. Davis and White, both students at the University of Michigan, are the reigning world champions and the silver medalists from the 2010 Olympics.
The silver medal went to Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada, the 2010 gold medalists, and the bronze went to Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov of Russia.
Skating to music from "Les Misérables" for their Free Dance, Chock and Bates scored a personal-best 99.18 points to give them a total score of 164.64. They finished in eighth place and were in eighth place in both the Short Dance and the Free Dance.
The Shibutanis began skating in 1998 and teamed up as ice dancing partners in 2005. They moved to Colorado Springs the next year to train and then to Canton, Mich., in 2009. Both are now students at the University of Michigan. Read more about the ShibSibs and their time in Greenwich here on the Daily Voice.
