McMahon, Norwalk Boys Lacrosse Kick Off State Tourney

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Fourteen local teams begin the quest Wednesday to continue Fairfield County's dominance in boys lacrosse at the state level. Since boys lacrosse became an official varsity sport in 1995, a team from Fairfield County has won at least one of the state championships every year. Coming off its thrilling conference championship victory, New Canaan is hoping to add hardware in the Class M tournament.

Teams in playoffs from Fairfield County readership area of the Daily Voice are listed below. The first and second round games will be played at the higher seeded team's home field. The semifinals will be played at a neutral site and the championship games will be played at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk.

Class L Tournament

#5 Fairfield Prep (12-3) vs. #12 Greenwich (9-7), 5 p.m.

#10 Brien McMahon (10-6) at #7 Conard (11-5), 4:45 p.m.

#13 Staples (9-7) at #4 Norwich Free Academy (13-3), 4:30 p.m.

#15 Norwalk (9-7) at #2 Newtown (13-3), 7 p.m.

Class M Tournament

#1 Darien (15-1) vs. #16 New Fairfield (9-8), 4:30 p.m.

#3 New Canaan (13-3) vs. #19 Pomperaug (9-8), 4:30 p.m.

#5 Wilton (12-3) vs. #12 Fairfield Ludlowe (9-6), 4:30 p.m.

#20 Fairfield Warde (9-8) at #4 East Lyme (13-3), 5 p.m.

Class S Tournament

#1 Joel Barlow (14-2), first round bye, will play winner of Ledyard vs. Northwest Catholic on Saturday

#4 Weston (12-4) vs. #13 Tolland (7-9), 4:30 p.m.

#11 Notre Dame-Fairfield (8-8) at #6 Somers (12-4), 4:30 p.m.
