Beachside U12s Play for Regional Title

WESTPORT, Conn. – Beachside Soccer Club's under-12 boys team will play for the U.S. Youth Soccer Region 1 championship Tuesday after defeating the Bayside FC Bolts, 3-0, in the semifinals Monday in Lancaster, Pa.

Fairfield's Julio Cesar Palencia, Ridgefield's Ben Mines and Westport's Joe Pravder scored goals in the semifinal win for Beachside. The team plays Holmdel of New Jersey in the championship Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Beachside went 1-0-2 during pool play to earn a spot in the semifinals. It tied Holmdel, 1-1, in its final game in pool play. The U12 team is coached by Mark Alves. The team includes players from Stamford, Norwalk, Fairfield, Westport, Ridgefield and Trumbull.

Three other Beachside teams did not advance out of pool play. The under-15 team went 2-1, dropping its final pool play game 2-1 to the Arsenal Gunners of Pennsylvania. The U16 boys went 2-1, including a 2-1 win over the Pachuca Dragons of Maryland. It tied PDA Harkes for the top spot in the pool, but PDA advanced on goal differential. The U17 boys went 1-2.
