The 15-and-under Beachside team advanced to the championship game of the US Youth Soccer Region 1 tournament Monday with a 2-1 win over AC Bethesda of Maryland. The Westport-based club team, which includes players from Westport, Norwalk, and other Fairfield County towns, will play for the regional title Tuesday.
Beachside's 12-and-under and 18-and-under teams lost their semifinal round games. The 12-and-under squad dropped a 2-1 decision to PDA Pele of New Jersey. Beachside lost in penalty kicks, 9-8. Kyle Casey scored Beachside's goal. The 18-and-under squad lost to TSF Academy Celtic of New Jersey, 3-0.
In the 15-u game, Norwalk's Kevin Joslyn tied the game with a goal in the 68th minute. Alexander O'Brien scored the game-winner in the 75th minute. Joslyn and O'Brien are among the top scorers in the tournament. Beachside plays Baltimore Bays Chelsea of Maryland in Tuesday's final. Baltimore Bays has allowed just one goal in five tournament games. The tournament is being played in Barboursville, W. Va.
