Ballo Shares Ike Lead

Stamford's Mike Ballo shares the lead with three other players after the first round of The Ike, the Metropolitan Golf Association's stroke play amateur championship. Ballo, who plays out of Woodway Country Club, is the defending champion.

Ballo shot a two-under-par 69 at Metropolis Country Club and is tied with Russell Giglio, Joe Saladino and Chris Ferraro. Robert Corheim and Mike Stamberger are one shot off the pace.

The final two rounds of the tournament will be played Tuesday. Ballo is trying to become the first player since Ken Macdonald in 1999-2000 to win consecutive Ike titles.

Wilton's Brian Murphy, who plays out of Brooklawn in Fairfield, shot 72 and is tied for eighth place. Rowayton's Cameron Wilson, last year's MGA Player of the Year, shot 73 and is tied for 14th place.
