Arraya, Shea Win 3rd Straight State Platform Title

WESTON, Conn. – Juan Arraya and Sheri Shea won their third straight Connecticut Mixed Platform Tennis championship Saturday at Aspetuck Valley Country Club in Weston. They defeated Susan Lovejoy and Sebastian Bredberg in the final, 6-4, 6-4.

It was the third straight title for the duo. Arraya, a resident of Riverside, is director of racquet sports at Aspetuck. Shea is the director of racquet sports at Tumble Brook in Bloomfield. The pair entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed.

In the B Draw, Kelly Howe and Michael Lawton won the main flight by defeating Sheila and David Mueller of Darien. Howe and Lawton entered the tournament as the No. 27 seed. The Muellers upset the top seed in the round of 16 and won two more matches before losing in the final.

In other flights in the main draw, Cynthia Dardis of Stamford teamed with Max LePivert to defeat Connie Jones and Varun Vasudeva in the quarters reprieve. In the consolation, Susan Hoelzer and Hardy Manges defeated Meg Brossy and Lee Jones. In the main draw consolation reprieve, Eileen Dillon and B.J. Paret defeated Carol Guthrie and Jim Lipinski.

In other B draw flights, Keeley Kriskey and Steve Larson won the reprieve flight with a victory over Gitte and Christian Toft-Nielsen. Roxy Enica and Bob Kempenich defeated Trish and Gardner Tregellas in the consolation. Lulu Whiterbee and Brian Quinn won the consolation reprieve flight over Linda and Bob Duran.
