The Bridgeport Bluefish announced the signings of outfielders Joe Borchard and Prentice Redman and infielder Danny Richar, all former Major League players, on Friday.
"It's great to have three players of this caliber join the Bluefish," says Bluefish general manager Bob Goughan. "Joe, Prentice and Danny bring an immense amount of talent to the ballclub and will be great contributors to our lineup."
Borchard joins the Bluefish for his first season in the Atlantic League and 12th of professional baseball. Last year, the former Major Leaguer played for the Fresno Grizzlies (AAA) of the San Francisco Giants organization. In 125 games with Fresno, he recorded a .263 batting average with 17 home runs, 26 doubles, and 64 RBI in 422 at-bats. The 32-year-old was drafted as the 12th overall pick in the 2000 amateur draft by the Chicago White Sox and made his Major League debut two years later after an impressive stint in the minors. During six seasons in the Majors, Borchard has recorded 26 home runs, 77 RBI and 89 runs scored in 301 games.
Redman joins the Bluefish for his first season in the Atlantic League and 13th of professional baseball. Last year, the outfielder spent time with Albuquerque (AAA, Mariners) of the Pacific Coast League. He appeared in 61 games and batted .332 with 10 home runs, 13 doubles, 41 RBI and 43 runs scored over 214 at-bats. The 31-year-old is the brother of Tike Redman, who has spent six seasons in the big leagues and was a member of the Bluefish last year. Prentice has made one stop at the Major League level as a member of the New York Mets in 2003. In 15 games, he recorded three hits, including one home run in 24 at-bats.
Richar joins the Bluefish for his 10th season of professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. Last year, the former Major Leaguer appeared in 128 games with the New Orleans Zephyrs (AAA) of the Florida Marlins organization. He compiled a .315 batting average with seven home runs, 50 RBI and 57 runs scored in 467 at-bats. The 27-year-old made his first appearance at the Major League level in 2007 as a member of the Chicago White Sox.
