2 Beachside Soccer Teams Unbeaten in Regionals

WESTPORT, Conn. — Two Beachside Soccer Club teams are undefeated and two others are 1-1 in the Region 1 championships being played in Lancaster, Pa. Beachside is based in Westport, and Norwalk's Mickey Kydes is the program director. Beachside teams include players from throughout Fairfield County.

The under-12 team is 1-0-1 after a 0-0 tie Saturday against the PA Classics Revolution. Beachside, coached by Mark Alves, opened the tournament Friday with a 20-0 win over the PFA Predators of Pennsylvania. Alexander Hedegaard and Alex Carbonnier scored in the victory. It closes pool play Sunday with a game against Holmdel of New Jersey.

The under-15 team moved to 2-0 with a 3-2 win over Beach FC Red of Virginia. Stephen Tortora, Kyle Dedrick and Kent Coleman scored Beachside goals. Beachside plays the Aresenal Gunners on Sunday, and a victory would secure a spot in Monday's semifinals. Norwalk High soccer coach Chris Laughton coaches the team.

The under-16 team dropped a 3-1 decision to PDA Harkes of New Jersey on Saturday. Pieter Zenner scored for Beachside, which is coached by Pete Doneit. Beachside plays Sunday against the Pachuca Dragons and needs a victory to have a chance to advance. All four teams in the pool are 1-1.

The under-17 team, coached by Kydes, dropped a 3-2 decision to Black Watch of New York. Juliaan Zenner and Norwalk's Nick Zuniga scored for Beachside. It finishes pool play Sunday against undefeated Penn Fusion Celtic of Pennsylvania and needs a victory if hopes to advance. Beachside opened the tournament with a 3-1 over the WVSC Elite Titans of West Virginia, as Norwalk's Alex Petridis scored once and Zenner scored a pair.
