Special Guests Read at Wolfpit

Wolfpit Elementary students had some special guests in their classrooms this week.  On Monday, as part of the school's Read Across America celebration, a dozen public officials read their favorite children's books to eager listeners.

At an all school assembly before the classroom reading, Norwalk Public Schools Language Arts Director Jean Evans-Davila dressed up as Star Belly Sneetch, a beloved Dr. Seuss character.  She told the kids that they do not have to wear a star on the outside like Sneetch to show they are special;  they have their own special star inside.  Later, Probate Judge Anthony DePanfilis brought his favorite book, Chickens May not Cross the Road and Other True but Crazy Laws to a third grade classroom.  Police Chief Harry Rilling, who also knows a thing or two about laws,  got in on the reading fun, as well.

Read Across America is a campaign sponsored by the National Education Assocation to promote reading.  Every year in March, the month of Dr. Seuss' birthday, schools are encouraged to invite prominent members of the community to read to elementary students.
