Twenty students from Brien McMahon High School were partnered up with peers from Norwalk Community College at the college’s Center for Science, Health and Wellness.
The experimental health care program used an interdisciplinary simulation exercise to walk students through various dimensions of patient care.
The high school students performed as virtual medical assistants, nurses, and physical therapy assistants during the culmination of a 10-week program working alongside their college-age peers.
The learning exercise was streamed into a classroom in the center’s Simulation Lab where high school students observed and commented on safe patient care while their peers performed the care.
The same group of high school students will return to the college next year as juniors to complete the next phase of their academy program.
The program’s completion was celebrated Friday, Dec. 18, at the high school. College president David L. Levinson, shared information about college admissions, tuition, and scholarship opportunities.
