Parents will be able to learn about the new curriculum as well as key rollout dates and how evaluation and testing will be completed.
“Many parents have asked us what the Common Core shift means for their children and we really didn’t know how to answer them,” said Vicki Oatis, Children’s Librarian, in a release. “We reached out to NEF to help us plan an information session to demystify Common Core.”
Common Core State Standards are a set of research-based, globally competitive K-12 expectations for English language arts and mathematics that have been adopted by 45 states, including Connecticut. Norwalk schools are making curriculum changes and testing procedures designed to meet the new standards.
Panelists will include Tony Daddona, deputy superintendent of schools in Nowalk; Ralph Valenzisi, chief of technology, innovation and partnerships; Craig Creller, instructional specialist; Diane Filardo, testing and evaluation specialist; Maureen Jones, assistant principal; and Tritty Kelly, ELA team leader.
Each member of the panel will present information on Norwalk’s implementation of the Common Core, which will be followed by a question and answer period. This event is open to the public.
Child care will be provided by the library, but space is limited and must be reserved by calling the library at (203) 899-2780, ext. 15131.
A Spanish translator will be available if needed. Light refreshments will be served.
The Norwalk Library is located at 1 Belden Ave.
