NCC Offers Summer Course in Guatemala

Haven't you always wanted to go to Quetzaltenango? No? NCC students will soon learn where it is--high in the Guatamalan mountains where the ancient Maya once ruled. Students studying Spanish at Norwalk Community College can head there to hone their conversational Spanish skills, in a summer study abroad class running from June 16 through July 7. Quetzaltenango, which the locals call Xela (pronounced Shay-la), is a univerity town, with one state unversity and six private ones. That means lots of coffee shops and clubs, along with the historic squares and churches. NCC's course is designed to enrich a student’s understanding of the Spanish language through the study of the host country’s history and civilization. Students will earn six credits for their foreign adventure. The cost of the trip is $1,200 plus tuition. This includes all travel, cultural activities, sight-seeing trips and home stays with Guatemalan families. All meals are included, except some meals on the weekends. For more information and to get an application for the course contact Professor Angeles Dam at (203) 857-7362 or e-mail her at adam@ncc.commnet.edu.
