Naramake Wins $500 Check

"Who likes prizes?," asked Main Street Connect President John Falcone as he handed over a big $500 check to Naramake Elementary School in Norwalk at an all-school assembly on Thursday morning. "We do!" cheered the children.

"This money is to help schools," explained Falcone, head of this website and nine others in Fairfield County who was joined on stage by Stan Remson, PTO co-president and principal Karen Ockasi. Naramake won the Thank You prize in Main Street's Better Schools Bonanza promotion, after getting at least 100 people to register on TheDailyNorwalk.com.

Since voting tallies were made public on the Main Street Connect sites earlier this week, Naramake has been among the three schools with the top votes, along with Jefferson and Columbus schools. The promotion will culminate with a $10,000 first prize and $5,000 second prize to the schools that get the most votes. "We are a little competitive," says Ockasi half-joking. "We do anything for these kids."

Stan Remson PTO co-president along with his wife, Sue , already knows what the money will go towards. "The PTO just approved funding to give each teacher a laptop that they can use with their SMARTboards," says Remson who has been actively encouraging parents to vote. "Anything we can do to help our teachers, help our kids, that's what we do."

Naramake became the fourth school to receive a Thank You prize. Jefferson Science Magnet School, Columbus Magnet Schools in Norwalk and Miller-Driscoll School in Wilton have already received checks. You can continue to register and vote for your favorite school until the deadline at 11:59 p.m. Nov. 15.
