NORWALK, Conn. The following is a letter sent by Superintendent Susan Marks to employees of the Norwalk Public Schools on Friday and was forwarded to the Norwalk Daily Voice by one of those employees:
It is with regret that I let you know that I have given the Board of Education my resignation as superintendent of the Norwalk Public Schools. This decision was not an easy one to make. When I came to Norwalk, I came with great enthusiasm regarding the work that we could do together on behalf of our students. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, I am exercising my right to resign from this position.
Over the last two years, we have had some significant challenges, and I regret that I could not obtain the resources needed to support all of you in your jobs. We were able to add back some positions, and for that I am grateful.
It has been a privilege to serve the Norwalk Community. I have met some of the most dedicated administrators, teachers and support staff who work every day on behalf of our students. Our Norwalk Public School families and community care deeply about our schools. Over the past two years, I visited many classrooms in all our schools. I have met many of you personally. With many challenges, we have kept our focus on our students. Our students are learning and continuing to increase their achievement on many measures. It is because of the great people we have working in our schools.
Over the next few weeks, I will be working with our Board of Education on the transition plan for the district. I will also be working with many of you on preparation for the opening of the 2012-13 school year.
I know each and every one of you will continue to do your very best for the students of Norwalk. A sincere thank you to all our staff for going above and beyond to accomplish all we have done. Please be assured I am indebted to you for your service to the Norwalk Public Schools.
