Cathy and Neal Konstantin are regulars at the annual Norwalk Education Foundation fundraisers. "They play such an important role in supporting the schools and creating extra programs," says Neal. As parents with children in Rowayton Elementary, Roton Middle School and Brien McMahon High School, the Konstantin's consider themselves "committed to the Norwalk."
A couple of hundred people attended Thursday evening's "Taste for Education" fundraiser at Aitoro's appliance store on Westport Avenue. They mingled and tasted a variety of foods cooked up by local chefs and offered by servers and Norwalk middle school students. "Its a good experience," said West Rocks student Taylor Parsons, who passed out cookies. "You learn how to talk to people, plus its a good cause."
"Our role is more important now than ever," says NEF director Lauren Rosato. "We've always been working to develop innovative ideas for our schools. Now schools have to do more with less and rely on the outside community." NEF's signature offerings include a broad variety of school-based after-school programs and training teachers to use technology in their classrooms.
