Carols Lift Community Spirit at Norwalk School

The gymnasium at Fox Run Elementary School reverberated Wednesday with the school's annual Holiday Sing-Along. Music teacher Margaret Kelly led all of the school's pupils in a hearty chorus, as grade levels took turns singing for each other before joining their teachers to sing together.

Songs included 8-year-old Joshua Vega's favorite, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," and kindergartner Charlotte Biehl's favorite, "Feliz Navidad." The kids also sang "The Dreidel Song," "Flicker Little Candles" and "Kwanza, Kwanza."

Kelly provided accompaniment on her keyboard. She said the sing-along is an annual event dating to 2003. "I have just as much fun as they do, getting it ready," she said. "It's great, and I like it because the whole school gets together. It includes parents and anyone who wants to be here. It's one of our big community events every year."

Kurt Schegel was there to watch his children, Lia and Logan. He said they like making a "loud noise" and learned their lyrics easily. "It comes very naturally to them," he said.
