Stumble Across This Antique Steal

"It's a rare find," says Cyndi Kane of the four bedroom, three-and-a-half bath colonial on 138 Partrick Ave in Norwalk. Built in 1840, the house is a bonafide antique property in which historic details were actually preserved by the previous owner.

"With so many of these homes, it'll look like an antique on the outside but when you get inside, everything's been completely redone," says Cyndi, a Norwalk resident and realtor with William Raveis. Touring these rooms, on the other hand, feels like a cross between visiting Old Sturbridge Village and walking through a life-size doll's house. The fireplace still has an iron swing arm from the days of cooking over an open flame; there are patches of exposed brick and beams throughout. The wide plank floors manage to look authentic and fresh at the same time (one wouldn't worry about getting a splinter in bare feet, as with some "distressed" flooring). Quaint cabinets and shelves pop up in unexpected places, like at the end of a narrow hallway. The antique furnishings are for sale, too - and if you like what's on display, just wait until you look in the garage.

"There was so much furniture in here, I had to take some of it out," says Cyndi, who offers her sellers a unique deal: For no extra charge, Cyndi calls in her ex-husband, a design expert, to stage homes working with what owners already have. This is a huge savings opportunity, as home stager's fees run anywhere from $500 to $5000, more if clients need to add new pieces. "Luckily, my ex and I have a great relationship," she says.

If you're more into modern, Cyndi doesn't limit herself to antique properties (though she is very fond of this one). "In this market, it's not a matter of choosing the property you're going to sell," she says.

The Partrick Avenue house is listed at $594,999. For more info, call Cyndi at 203-682-0839.
