She Sold the House Her Mom Sold

Maggie Marchesi is the sort of person you just know you’re going to like from the moment you meet her.  Full of energy and enthusiasm, she knows the answers to all the questions a buyer or seller could have, and is a huge fan of the town where she was born and bred – Darien. And, she simply loves what she does.

“I love how every day is different from the next,” she says, when asked what she likes most about her job, “and I don’t mind working seven days a week!” Luckily, her office, Kelly Associates, has a great group of other agents who back each other up, so if Maggie needs some time off she can take it.

The Darien market is very active at the moment. Maggie has had four closings in the past month. “One of the closings is a piece of land in town. The buyers are Darien people who are going to build their dream house. That’s so exciting,” she said. Another house is going to a Stamford family moving to Darien for the school system. Sale Number Three is to a Greenwich couple who liked the quieter lifestyle of Darien.

Maggie’s introduction to real estate came at a tender age – her mom was a realtor in the 1970s, and one of Maggie’s earliest memories is being dragged along to her mom’s Open Houses. It took a while for her to jump into her mom’s shoes. After college she worked in public relations, then in the trade show business in Chicago. When her husband’s company relocated to Manhattan, she decided it was time to move back to Darien. With three daughters at home, all she could manage was part-time work, so she partnered up with a friend who had started a preschool called Playdates. But the idea of working in real estate kept nagging at her, so eight years ago she sat her licensing exam – and has been busy ever since.

So what about closing Number Four?  “I just sold the very first house my mother sold.  It was a quirky house and a couple moving out from Manhattan just fell in love with it. I was so excited, I wanted to tell my mother all about it, but she’s in heaven now. It was so odd – I found myself dialing her phone to tell her.”

See what I mean – nothing not to like about Maggie Marchesi.
