Rumer Has The Knack For Sales

Ray Rumer’s path towards his career in real estate started, somewhat surprisingly, in the world of chemistry. A job with a company called Thor Chemicals, a multinational manufacturer and distributor of biocides and other speciality chemicals, brought him to Norwalk in 1984 – and he has stayed here ever since.

The last contract he worked on for Thor involved the Chinese.  “Two-thirds of the reserves of rare earths which are used in the high tech field are found in China,” Ray explains.

Rumer was raised in a household that moved quite frequently.  His dad loved to build homes and Ray grew up to share this passion.  So far he has built five homes, though he’s not sure if he has another one in him.  When he became a realtor sixteen years ago, he found that his knowledge of house construction was an advantage that helped clients through the process of buying and selling homes.

Rumer works as a team with Arlene Donahue of John D. Hastings, and they currently have the joint listing for the sale of the United Methodist Church on West Avenue in Norwalk.  He was a member of the congregation for many years and remembers the sad day when the Bishop performed the deconsecration service and stripped the altar table.  “It was a very emotional event for many families who had worshipped here for several generations,” he said.  “The acoustics in the church are fantastic,” he added.  He should know – he was a member of the choir.
